It is an autonomous institution jointly established by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and the Government of Haryana, and functions under the Department of Heritage & Tourism, Government of Haryana. The Institute is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act with the District Registrar of Firms & Societies, Yamunanagar.
